What is a YouTube thumbnail downloader?

A YouTube thumbnail is the small picture you see before you click a video. A YouTube thumbnail downloader takes a video's link and gives you that picture as an image file you can save, so you don't have to take a blurry screenshot.

YouTube keeps five copies of every thumbnail, from a tiny 120×90 to HD 1280×720. This tool shows all of them at once, tells you which ones exist for that video, and lets you download the one you need, copy it straight into another app, or copy its link.

How to use the YouTube Thumbnail Downloader

    1. Copy the link of a YouTube video, Short or live stream (from the address bar, or Share → Copy link in the app).
    2. Paste it into the box above. The thumbnails appear right away. You can also paste just the 11-character video ID.
    3. Press Download to save the size you want, Copy image to paste it into a chat or a design app, or Copy link to get the image address.

    Frequently asked questions

Can I download a YouTube thumbnail in 4K or Full HD?
No. YouTube asks creators to upload thumbnails up to 4K, but it only shares smaller copies with the public. The largest one is HD 1280×720. Tools that offer “4K” give you the same 1280×720 picture with a bigger label.
Why is there no HD version for some videos?
YouTube only makes the HD 1280×720 thumbnail when the video itself was uploaded in HD. Many older videos don't have it. The tool then shows the best size that exists.
Does it work with YouTube Shorts?
Yes. Paste a Shorts link (youtube.com/shorts/...) and you get the same five sizes as a normal video.
Can I use a downloaded thumbnail anywhere I like?
A thumbnail belongs to the person who made the video. Using it for reference, a review or your own video is usually fine, but ask the creator before reusing it in your own content or for anything commercial.
Is anything I paste sent to your server?
No. The tool works out the video ID in your browser and loads the thumbnails straight from YouTube's image server. We never see or store the link or the images.
